In My Mailbox {Week 4}

Title: Switched
Series: Trylle ⋯ Book 1
Author: Amanda Hocking
Pages: 293
Format: Advanced Readers' Edition
Release Date: January 3, 2012

Summary: When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have been right. With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - a world both beautiful and frightening, and Wendy's not sure she wants to be a part of it.

I received this book Tuesday, and I have already finished it. I loved it, and will be posting a full review soon.

Title: Ciudad de hueso (City of Bones)
Series: Cazadores De Sombras (The Mortal Instruments) ⋯ Book 1
Author: Cassandra Clare
Pages: 505
Format: Paperback

(When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.*)
I ordered this because I'm learning Spanish and figured reading my favorite book in Spanish might help. My review of City of Bones is here. *This is the English summary, not a translation of the Spanish summary.
Title: Magic in the Mirrorstone: Tales of Fantasy
Series: Anthology
Editor: Steve Berman
Pages: 295
Format: Hardcover

Summary: In this anthology for teen readers, fifteen best-selling and acclaimed authors--including Holly Black, Cecil Castellucci, Cassandra Clare, Eugie Foster, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, and Gregory Frost--weave all-new stories filled with magic. Comic and dark, epic and entertaining, these stories will introduce readers to the new voices of Mirrorstone beside the treasured favorites of Young Adult fantasy.

Ordered this because I ordered So Fey last week, and was looking through Steve Berman's other works.

Title: The Faery Reel: Tales from the Twilight Realm
Series: Anthology
Editors: Ellen Datlow & Terri Windling
Pages: 528
Format: Paperback

Summary: Faeries, or creatures like them, can be found in almost every culture the world over—benevolent and terrifying, charming and exasperating, shifting shape from country to country, story to story, and moment to moment. In The Faery Reel, acclaimed anthologists Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling have asked some of today’s finest writers of fantastic fiction for short stories and poems that draw on the great wealth of world faery lore and classic faery literature. This companion to the World Fantasy Award–winner and Locus bestseller The Green Man is edgy, provocative, and thoroughly magical. Like the faeries themselves.

Ordered this because I read Teeth: Vampire Tales, which was also edited by Ellen & Terri.

I also picked up Fury by Elizabeth Miles and Crossed by Ally Condie from Barnes & Noble over Black Friday, but they didn't come in the mail, so I decided not to included them fully in this post.

Cover Combat {Week 1}

EDIT: So Cassie Clare just told me that the UK cover I put up is an old one, but I'll keep because it looks like the cover now is the same as the US one with a few minor variations.

So, I'm gonna start doing cover combat, where I'll put up a US cover and a foreign cover of the same book and you vote on your favorite. Most of the time it will probably US versus UK, but there may be other countries thrown in.

First off, I'll do City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. US versus UK covers.

YA Crush Tourney News

This was the first annual Summer Crushin' Tournament, hosted by the YA Sisterhood. I'm blogging about it today because it ended this morning and I'm very excited about the winner. So for the Grande Finale round, Jace Wayland(from Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series) went up against Zachary Moore(from Jeri Smith-Ready's Shift & Shade novels).

And(unsurprisingly) the Winner is. . .

Jace Wayland

Now the voting was very close at 24,250 to 21,385. And when I went to bed last night(at 2a.m.), I was a little worried that #TeamKilt would pull a last-minute voting ambush like they did when Zachary was against Tod Hudson(from Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series) in the semi-finals.

If you haven't noticed yet, I'm #TeamJace all the way! So I was excited when, yesterday, Cassandra blogged that if Jace wins she would post the unedited version of the Dirty Sexy Club Scene in City of Lost Souls, A spicy teaser from Clockwork Prince, and if he won by more than 1,000 votes, a romantic Magnus/Alec scene from CoLS. Then I got even more excited when she blogged "The Big Guns edition", in which she would give away a Clockwork Prince ARC to someone who tweeted, blogged, Facebooked, etc. about the tourney between 8p.m. & 8a.m. yesterday. Also yesterday, for every fifty votes Jace got Cassie would answer a character question on Twitter(I'm trying to compile the Q&A's into a list)
(Not sure who made this, but I got it when it was @HebelDesign's profile picture.)

For the complete list(match ups included) of everyone in the tourney, go here.
For the YA Sisterhood's post on the winner, go here.

EDIT: Added the link for the Clockwork Prince teaser. If you missed it, go here.
Also, if you didn't catch the DSCS(Dirty Sexy Club Scene) link, go here.

EDIT 2: Added the link for the Malec(Magus/Alec) scene. If you missed it, go here.

Book Review ⋯ City of Ashes

Title: City of Ashes
Series: The Mortal Instruments ⋯ Book 2
Author: Cassandra Clare
Pages: 453
Stars: ★★★★

Summary: A murderer is loose in New York City ...

... and the victims are Downworlder children. Clary Fray and her fellow Shadowhunters have a strong suspicion that Valentine, Clary's father, may be behind the killings. But if he is the murderer, then what's his true motive? To make matters worse, the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, has been stolen, and the mysterious Inquisitor has arrived to investigate, with his eyes vigilantly targeted on Clary's brother, Jace.

Clary will need to face some terrifying demons and even more terrifying family decisions. No one said that the life of a Shadowhunter would be easy.

Review: SPOILER if you haven't read City of Bones.

This is my least favorite book in the series, but only because Jace and Clary are "brother and sister" throughout the book. I still loved the book, though. Cassandra Clare is one of my favorite authors and she didn't disappoint with City of Ashes.

Awesomely Awesome CoFA Pic (Spoilery?)

Cassie Clare retweeted this pic, based on a little tidbit from City of Fallen Angels. Reference to this subject has been classified a spoiler by Cassandra Clare, so continue at your own risk.

Book Review ··· City of Fallen Angels

Title: City of Fallen Angels
Series: The Mortal Instruments ··· Book 4
Author: Cassandra Clare
Pages: 424
Stars: ★★★★★

Summary: City of Fallen Angels takes place two months after the events of City of Glass. In it, a mysterious someone’s killing the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle and displaying their bodies around New York City in a manner designed to provoke hostility between Downworlders and Shadowhunters, leaving tensions running high in the city and disrupting Clary’s plan to lead as normal a life as she can — training to be a Shadowhunter, and pursuing her relationship with Jace.

As Jace and Clary delve into the issue of the murdered Shadowhunters, they discover a mystery that has deeply personal consequences for them — consequences that may strengthen their relationship, or rip it apart forever. Meanwhile, internecine warfare among vampires is tearing the Downworld community apart, and only Simon — the Daylighter who everyone wants on their side — can decide the outcome; too bad he wants nothing to do with Downworld politics.

Love, blood, betrayal and revenge: the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.

Who will be tempted by darkness? Who will fall in love, and who will find their relationship torn apart? And who will betray everything they ever believed in?

Review: Oh my goodness, this book was ridiculous!! One minute I was smiling and laughing then the next minute I didn't want to keep reading because whatever just happened was awful. I soooo can't wait for City of Lost Souls to come out. I would write a bigger review but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

City of Fallen Angels DSAS

The "Dirty Sexy Alley Scene" from CoFA by Cassandra Clare.
Here is the teaser of the scene: ↓

December teaser for City of Fallen Angels. This is the LAST TEASER. Jace and Clary, midbook.

The alley and the music all fell away, and there was nothing but her and the rain and Jace, his hands on her. . . He made a noise of surprise, low in his throat, and dug his fingers into the thin fabric of her tights. Not unexpectedly, they ripped, and his wet fingers were suddenly on the bare skin of her legs. Not to be outdone, Clary slid her hands under the hem of his soaked shirt, and let her fingers explore what was underneath: the tight, hot skin over his ribs, the ridges of his abdomen, the scars on his back. This was uncharted territory for her, but it seemed to be driving him crazy: he was moaning softly against her mouth, kissing her harder and harder, as if it would never be enough, not quite enough —

Does it end there? Well, the scene doesn’t but the teaser does. That’s why they call ‘em teasers. Have a happy holidays!
