Book Review ⋯ Vampire Academy

Title: Vampire Academy
Series: Vampire Academy ⋯ Book 1
Author: Richelle Mead
Pages: 332
Stars: ★★★★★

Summary: Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever...

Review: I absolutely love this book! I love Rose and Lissa and Dimitri and Christian! This was a reread and it was soooo much fun, because I knew what was going to happen, but the characters didn't, so I shouted at my book a lot. I just love this book so much!

Title: The Immortal Rules
Series: Blood of Eden ⋯ Book 1
Author: Julie Kagawa
Pages: 304
Release Date: April 24, 2012

Summary: You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their "pets." In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to fringes, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero...and turned vampire.

Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She's passing for human...for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.

Book Review ⋯ Bleeding Hearts

Title: Bleeding Hearts
Series: The Drake Chronicles ⋯ Book 4
Author: Alyxandra Harvey
Pages: 347
Stars: ★★★★★

Summary: As vampires from all over the world descend on the Drake farm for the Blood Moon gathering, security is ramped up. Lucy has been temporarily banned, for her own safety—and to allow Solange some time to adjust to her new existence. But their enemies realize how much Lucy means to the family, and plan to abduct her to use her for leverage against the new royal family. Instead, Lucy’s cousin Christabel is kidnapped by mistake—and Connor Drake immediately heads off in pursuit, but isn’t in time to prevent Christabel’s infection by the Hel Blar. He can’t save her human life, but he can still try to save her new vampire life, and is willing to put his own life on the line for the girl he has grown to care so much about. Can he save Christabel, the Blood Moon, and his mother’s newly forged Vampire Alliance?

Review: Bleeding Hearts was really, really good. I think it is my favorite of the series so far. Something I really liked about this book(other than the HOT Drake brothers, of course) was how time passed and the perspectives changed. That probably doesn't make sense. What I mean is that something would happen in Christabel's point-of-view, then when the chapter ended and the POV changed, the same event would happen in Connor's perspective. I really liked that about this book. I feel like I just threw up on the page, sorry. Anyway, in short, the book was amazing, and I think you should definitely read it. Or start the series for the first time with Hearts at Stake/My Love Lies Bleeding, then Blood Feud, Out for Blood, and, of course, Bleeding Hearts.

My copy of Bleeding Hearts also had an exclusive short story about Liam and Helena falling in love, and I have to say that I loved it. I was really cute, and I really want to read more about their story.

In My Mailbox {Week 9}

Title: After Obsession
Series: Stand-Alone
Author: Carrie Jones & Steven E. Wedel
Pages: 307
Format: ARC

Summary: Aimee and Alan have secrets. Both teens have unusual pasts and abilities they prefer to keep hidden. But when they meet each other, in a cold Maine town, they can't stop their secrets from spilling out. Strange things have been happening lately, and they both feel that something-or someone- is haunting them. They're wrong. Despite their unusual history and powers, it's neither Aimee nor Alan who is truly haunted. It's Alan's cousin Courtney who, in a desperate plea to find her missing father, has invited a demon into her life-and into her body. Only together can Aimee and Alan exorcise the ghost. And they have to move quickly, before it devours not just Courtney but everything around her.

Filled with heart-pounding romance, paranormal activity, and rich teen characters to love-and introducing an exciting new YA voice, Steven Wedel-this novel is exactly what Carrie Jones fans have been waiting for. Meet your next obsession.
Super excited to read this! The book is already out, and I won an ARC of it from The Readiacs.

My last IMM post I included this, because I wrote the post before I actually went to Barnes & Noble and didn't have time to change it. Anyway, B&N didn't have this in stock so I ordered it and it came yesterday. Super psyched for this book.

I also picked up Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer, Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, and Living Violet by Jaime Reed at B&N.

Title: Crave
Series: The Clann ⋯ Book 1
Author: Melissa Darnell
Pages: 416
Stars: ★★★★★

Summary: Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail.
For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences….
Review: Loved this book!! I loved how the perspective changed from Savannah to Tristan then back again. The whole plot with the Clann and the vampires was very creative, and I loved it! This book reminded me of the Night World books by L.J. Smith, and that made me excited and wanting to read the Night World books again. I loved that this book made me want to re-read other books.

In My Mailbox {Week 2}

So since I haven't done this in awhile, and since I just got a bunch of new books on my recent trip to borders, I'm going to do it now.

Soooooo can't wait till I finish Prom Nights from Hell, so I can read this book!

From my trip to Borders. Now I went two weekends in a row and I got like 15 books total, so this post is going to be looooooong.
Title: Prom Nights from Hell
Authors: Stephenie Meyer, Kim Harrison, Meg Cabot, Lauren Myracle, Michele Jaffe
Pages: 304
Format: Paperback

Summary: In this exciting collection, bestselling authors Meg Cabot (How to Be Popular), Kim Harrison (A Fistful of Charms), Michele Jaffe (Bad Kitty), Stephenie Meyer (Twilight), and Lauren Myracle (ttyl) take bad prom nights to a whole new level—a paranormally bad level. Wardrobe malfunctions and two left feet don't hold a candle to discovering your date is the Grim Reaper—and he isn't here to tell you how hot you look.

From angels fighting demons to a creepy take on getting what you wish for, these five stories will entertain better than any DJ in a bad tux. No corsage or limo rental necessary. Just good, scary fun.

Currently reading this and it's really good.

Title: Almost to Die For

Too bad witches and vampires are mortal enemies. And now Ana's parents are at each other's throats over her future. It's up to Ana to make a choice, but deciding your eternal destiny is a pretty big deal for a girl who just wants to get through high school.

Have been dying to read this.

Title: ReVamped
Series: Vamped ⋯ Book 2
Author: Lucienne Diver
Pages: 224

Summary: Gina's Rules for Surviving Super Spy Club Training:
1. First, the dirt and sweat are just too horrible to contemplate.

2. Unless you enjoy cold showers, be the first one to the bathroom in the morning.

3. Cargo pants make you look hip-py.

4. Making out on missions, unless it's part of your cover, is totally grounds for extra push-ups.

5. When going goth, you've totally got to strike words like totally, awesome, and phat from your vocabulary.

6. Who's actually running the Super Spy Club, you ask? I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

I haven't read the first book yet, but this was 50% off, so I got it.

Title: Full Moon
Series: Dark Guardian ⋯ Book 2
Author: Rachel Hawthorne
Pages: 263
Format: Paperback

Summary: I may be promised to another...but thoughts of Rafe consume me. I don't know how much longer I can resist.

Her parents are among the most powerful members of the Dark Guardians, an ancient tribe of werewolves, and they arranged Lindsey's betrothal to Connor long ago. The next full moon is coming all too soon, and then her commitment to Connor will be final—no turning back. She should be happy...so why can't she stop thinking about gorgeous, brooding Rafe?

When a dangerous threat on the pack escalates, so do tensions between Connor and Rafe. A fight over Lindsey is imminent, but will it be to the death?

Again, I haven't read the first book, but this was on saaaaale(singsongy voice).

Title: Gothic!: Ten Original Dark Tales
Editor: Deborah Noyes
Pages: 241
Format: Paperback

Summary: A lovesick count and the ghost of his brutalized servant . . . a serial killer who defies death . . . a house with a violent mind of its own and another that holds a grotesque secret within its peeling walls. Here are witches who feast on faces, changeling rites of passage, a venerable vampire contemplating his end, and a fanged brat who drains the patience of a bumbling teenage boy. Here too are a flamboyant young novelist in search of a subject more compelling than his own eerie existence and the daughter of a sorcerer fighting to free her lover — and her will — from sinister bonds. Enter the world of GOTHIC!, a celebration of the literary form made famous by such writers as Mary Shelley and Edgar Allan Poe.

With chilling stories by:
Joan Aiken, M. T. Anderson, Neil Gaiman, Caitlín R. Kiernan, Gregory Maguire, Garth Nix, Celia Rees, Janni Lee Simner, Vivian Vande Velde, Barry Yourgrau

Sounds like the perfect book for me.

Title: The Vampire Narcise
Series: Regency Draculia ⋯ Book 3
Author: Colleen Gleason
Pages: 382
Format: Paperback

Summary: Regency England stands defiant against Napoleon. But battles among men mean little to those who live forever – especially when the Dracule are waging their own war.

Skilled in the seduction of men, both mortal and immortal, Narcise Moldavi is the greatest weapon in her twisted brother's war among the Dracule. Until she falls for Giordan Cale.

Her first searing encounter with Giordan brands them with a passionate love. But Giordan's vow to help Narcise escape her brother's rule is followed by a betrayal more agonizing than sunlight.

Wounded but determined, Narcise ensnares vampire hunter Chas Woodmore in her quest for revenge and to reclaim her life. He wants her, worships her, will kill for her. And the Dracule never forget a wrong – nor do they forgive.

I pulled it off the shelf because it had vampire in the title, and though I hadn't heard of the series before, it sounded really good. When I get the first two books I'll be sure to write a review.

Title: Soul Thief
Series: The Demon Trappers ⋯ Book 2
Author: Jana Oliver
Pages: 339
Format: Paperback

Summary: Riley Blackthorne is beginning to learn that there are worse things than death by demon. And love is just one of them…

Seventeen-year-old Riley has about had it up to here. After the devastating battle at the Tabernacle, trappers are dead and injured, her boyfriend Simon is gravely injured, and now her beloved late father’s been illegally poached from his grave by a very powerful necromancer. As if that’s not enough, there's Ori, one sizzling hot freelance demon hunter who’s made himself Riley’s unofficial body guard, and Beck, a super over-protective “friend” who acts more like a grouchy granddad.  With all the hassles, Riley’s almost ready to leave Atlanta altogether.

But as Atlanta’s demon count increases, the Vatican finally sends its own Demon Hunters to take care of the city’s “little” problem, and pandemonium breaks loose. Only Riley knows that she might be the center of Hell’s attention: an extremely powerful Grade 5 demon is stalking her, and her luck can't last forever…

Also don't have the first book, but I have been meaning to pick it up.

Title: Halo
Series: Halo ⋯ Book 1

Format: Paperback

Summary: Three angels – Gabriel, the warrior ; Ivy, the healer ; and Bethany, the youngest and most human – are sent by Heaven to bring good to a world falling under the influence of darkness. They must work hard to conceal their luminous glow, superhuman powers, and, most dangerous of all, their wings, all the while avoiding all human attachments.

Then Bethany meets Xavier Woods, and neither of them is able to resist the attraction between them. Gabriel and Ivy do everything in their power to intervene, but the bond between Xavier and Bethany seems too strong.

The angel’s mission is urgent, and dark forces are threatening. Will love ruin Bethany or save her?

Have been wanting to read this forever, but I've been waiting for it to come out in paperback, which it just did, last month!

Title: Sati
Series: None
Author: Christopher Pike
Pages: 254
Format: Paperback

Summary: I once knew this girl who thought she was God. She didn’t give sight to the blind or raise the dead. She didn’t even teach anything, not really, and she never told me anything I probably didn’t already know.

On the other hand, she didn’t expect to be worshipped, nor did she ask for money. Given her high opinion of herself, some might call that a miracle.

I don’t know, maybe she was God. Her name was Sati and she had blonde hair and blue eyes.

For all who meet her, Sati will change everything. Sati may change everything for you.

I love Christopher Pike, so I picked this up.

Title: The Frenzy
Series: None
Author: Francesca Lia Block
Pages: 258
Format: Hardcover

But in the woods, a mysterious woman watches Liv. In the woods, a pack of wild boys lurks. In the woods, Liv learns about the curse that will haunt her forever. The curse that caused the frenzy four years ago. And that may cause it again, all too soon.

While Corey and Liv’s love binds them together, Liv’s dark secret threatens to tear them apart as she struggles to understand who—or what—she really is. And by the light of the full moon, the most dangerous secrets bare their claws. . .

Also love Francesca Lia Block, and I have been wanting to read this book for awhile. I was going to wait for it to come out in paperback, but it was 50% off, so I got it.

Title: Wuthering Bites
Series: None
Author: Sarah Gray
Pages: 362
Format: Paperback

Summary: What if the enigmatic hero of one of our most timeless love stories was part vampire? The answer lies in this haunting retelling of the classic tale of Catherine and Heathcliff, kindred spirits bound by a turbulent—and now forbidden—passion...

When a young orphan named Heathcliff is brought to Wuthering Heights by the manor's owner, Mr. Earnshaw, rumors abound. Yet the truth is more complicated than anyone could guess. Heathcliff's mother was a member of a gypsy band that roamed the English countryside, slaying vampires to keep citizens safe. But his father was a vampire. Now, even as Heathcliff gallantly fights the monsters who roam the moors in order to protect beautiful, spirited Catherine Earnshaw, he is torn by compassion for his victims—and by his own dark thirst.

Though Catherine loves Heathcliff, she fears the vampire in him, and is tempted by the privileged lifestyle their neighbors, the Lintons, enjoy. Forced to choose between wealthy, refined Edgar Linton and the brooding, increasingly dangerous Heathcliff, she makes a fateful decision. And soon Heathcliff, too, must choose—between his hunger, and the woman he will love for all eternity...

It's Wuthering Heights with vampires! Need I say more??

Title: Many Bloody Returns: Tales of Birthdays with Bite
Editors: Charlaine Harris & Toni L. P. Kelner
Pages: 355
Format: Paperback

Summary: Never-before-published vampire stories by Charlaine Harris, Jim Butcher, Kelley Armstrong, and many others.

Suspenseful, surprising, sometimes dark, sometimes humorous-these all-new stories will ensure that readers never think of vampires (or birthdays) in quite the same way again.

In New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris's "Dracula Night," Sookie Stackhouse is the only human at the annual commemoration of Dracula's birth. But this year, the Prince of Darkness actually shows up-and finds Sookie to be a tasty-looking present.

New York Times bestselling author Jim Butcher's crime-solving wizard Harry Dresden, of the Dresden Files novels, heads to a role-playing party to give his vampire brother a birthday present in "It's My Birthday Too," only to discover there are some bloodthirsty party crashers who don't share their brotherly love.

In "Twilight," Cassandra DuCharme, who appeared in New York Timesbestselling author Kelley Armstrong's Dime Store Magic, knows she has to kill to live as a vampire another year-but finds herself disturbingly disinterested in the hunt.

Plus ten more bloody good birthday stories that take the cake.

Vampire stories by awesome authors. How could I not get it??

Title: The Lost Hero
Series: The Heroes of Olympus ⋯ Book 1

They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?

Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.

Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god.

Got this because my brother already read it. It sounds interesting nonetheless.
